How to prepare

Deutsche Version

Headshots Wear a slight make up but not too much. I will retouch your blemishes in post process.

Family Choose clothing that is simple. Stay away from anything with logos and patterns. The kids should be well-fed, well-rested. You may want to bring a snack and their favorite toys! After 6 years of shooting families, I do know what NOT to wear: white or pastels make everything, bellies and waists, appear larger. Don’t dress everyone in exactly the same shirt, or you will all look like you have on a uniform. Sleeve length should be the same for everyone and shoes will show only some of the time, so Dad might not want to wear white socks with his brown shoes. In areas with lots of trees and leaves, please wear plain colored shirts or dresses as you want to be in focus.

Maternity sessions are best when scheduled sometime between week 29 and 36.
Wear comfortable clothes that will not leave a mark on your skin, no waistbands, socks, elastic hairbands, and if you can get away with it, no panties or bra.  I want your skin to be as smooth and pretty as it can be!

I will provide my gowns for you to wear during the shoot.  If you do want to bring an outfit or two, jeans or yoga pants with a tight-fitting tank top always look great, as do oversized men’s button-up shirts.  Avoid maternity clothes that are big and baggy, they will make you look wide in a photo, and nobody wants to look wide.

Newborns are best when photographed between birth and ten days. I also offer sessions right after the birth in the hospital or birth place.

To prepare for your session try to give the baby a good long feeding just before leaving home.  That will get them good and sleepy!  I mostly work with newborns when they are naked or just in a diaper.  If you have sentimental outfits, blankets or objects however, please bring them!  I want to make these photos as special as we can!

Parents and siblings should expect to be in a few of the photos.  Please stay away from logos or patterns when choosing your outfit.  I find that plain, white, black or gray clothing works the best.  I also recommend that you bring a t-shirt or something to change into just in case your baby pees on you during the session.  It happens.  And please know that if your baby pees or poops on me or anything in my studio, it is no big deal, it is washable!

Hello Baby – Delivery A couple weeks before your due date I will check in on you to see how things are going. Please have someone contact me again when it’s confirmed that you are in labor (around 4-5 cm) and I will start making my way to your home or the hospital. When I arrive at your birth-facility, I will take some story-telling photos of the environment and a few of you in those early contractions.

If you have any other questions regarding how best to prepare for your session, please do not hesitate to call or send me an email.
